With all my respect for today's heroes from Iraq, and Afghanistan veterans, if they cannot get by on the benefits that are in place then I feel terrible for our nation.

As for the Department of Veteran Affairs they are doing a great job with what they are given. God bless them.

As for PTSD,  if there is a problem with PTSD it is not because the VA does not try. It is because returning veterans come back to a nation stupefied by consumerism, brain dead  trivial information, starting with the latest gimmick on television where people are declared stars without ever having done anything useful in society.

If you want to know what American veterans had it hard adjusting back, after war in our history look at the civil war veterans, WW 1 veterans, and yes today's lepers Vietnam veterans.

Arlington must rumble and the ground shake, with those heroes rolling over in the graves. If you want to help a combat vet with PTSD get involved in politics and turn the television off.

 

My brother was a Vietnam Veteran who had the dual diagnosis of PTSD and drug dependence.  Thirteen years ago there was not a program available for him that was equipped to treat this problem and he committed suicide.  I am very happy to hear that the VA has stepped up to deal with these issues now.  I am thankful for individuals like Stacey Pollack who are willing to help our veterans.

PTSD is a condition that should be assumed probable with every combat veteren. It seems the vast majority of our veterens suffer from some form of PTSD. Medication, especially those with k2 side effects, should also be more carefully considered before prescription. I think a lot of the medications prescribed my exacerbate the problem rather than help

While (as she mentions) I'm sure it's still quite difficult to get soldiers to admit they need mental health help (particularly men), I imagine the evidence-based diagnosis is something that helps a lot of people feel able to ask for and accept help.
